Inside Lucy and Olly’s colourful wedding
Part of the joy of holding weddings at Lineham Farm is meeting the couples who choose to experience their special day here and seeing all the beautiful and unique ways that they choose to celebrate.
Lineham Farm is the perfect blank canvas wedding space. Our 17th century farmhouse is nestled within 120 acres of land near Leeds, surrounded by unspoiled countryside and an abundance of wildlife. We have a range of stunning spaces available for couples to enjoy, from the rustic simplicity of the barn room to the sunny outdoor courtyard. And the great thing is, when you get married at Lineham Farm you get the whole venue to yourself all weekend.
We wanted to give you some insight into the unique and fun ways you can celebrate at Lineham Farm, so we reached out to one of our couples for a chat. Lucy and Olly got married at Lineham Farm in May and their wedding was totally unforgettable, complete with colourful décor, food trucks and plenty of partying.
We caught up with Lucy to find out a little more about the big day.
Hi Lucy – thank you for chatting to us! Firstly, we wanted to know a little more about what made you and Olly decide to hold your wedding at Lineham Farm. Was there anything that stood out in particular when you visited the venue?
We loved the flexible space and the flexibility of options for food and drink. Accommodation was great for lots of guests and most of all it was the perfect space for children too. The main thing that stood out to us when we visited was that we could choose our own food vendors and that we could provide alcohol with no corkage charge.
All the profits from venue hire support the work of Leeds Children’s Charity, helping disadvantaged and vulnerable children in Leeds. Did this factor into your decision to hold your wedding at Linehem Farm?
The fact all profits go to charity was a big factor in our decision. It felt much more meaningful that our money was benefitting others in need, especially children.
How long did you spend planning your wedding? Did you run into any issues?
Our wedding was postponed due to Covid, which actually ended up working in our favour! I’d say we spent about four months planning it properly. We didn’t have any issues; we were determined to have a stress-free party!
At Lineham Farm we provide a blank canvas for couples to decorate how they choose. How did you go about decorating the venue?
We decided to use a mixed colour scheme with ribbons, fairly lights and paper lanterns. My friend did the flowers using a local grower. Everything was bright and mis-matched – perfect for the venue!
Can you tell us about the catering you used on your big day? How did you decide on the food and drink?
We used two food vans – pizza and tacos. There was no sit-down meal, which worked really well and the guests loved it. We asked 12 friends to bake us a cake and guests could take a slice whenever they fancied. In the evening we had our local curry restaurant bring in curry and sides.
We decided on food vans as we didn’t want a sit-down meal or people waiting hours for food. We wanted food and drink to be available to all the guests whenever they fancied. The vans served for 3.5 hours so every guest could try different foods.
What was your family and friends’ reaction to the venue?
Our friends and family LOVED everything! Especially that they could have a beer or fizz during the ceremony! They loved the space, and those with families were thankful that it felt like a mini holiday too.
What was your vision for your wedding, and did you manage to capture it?
Our vision was to have a day of fun with good food and drink. We wanted everything to be as flexible as possible and wanted to make it special for our guests.
We made a full weekend of it with food on the Friday, yoga on the Saturday morning, and a forest schoolteacher come to take the kids off for a few hours. We also had a fridge full of food so people could help themselves if they were getting peckish! It really was like a mini holiday for everyone!
Can you share your favourite memory from your wedding?
I have so many memories it’s hard to pick one. But, I’d say my favourite was looking at the courtyard at all my favourite people having the best time in the sunshine!
Finally, do you have any advice or tips for couples planning a wedding at Lineham Farm?
Really try not to sweat about the small stuff. Make sure you download your playlists from Spotify! Use the space however it best works for you. And don’t buy too many decorations – Lineham Farm is a cool place so there’s no need to spend money trying to make it look too different!
